Information for new students

In order to enrol on the Bachelor's degree programmes at the English Department, you need to provide proof of your language proficiency.

According to the regulations regarding admission qualifications, you will need to provide evidence before enrolment that you have one of the following:

      • an Abitur grade of at least 12 points in English as core subject
      • (=average of last report grade and written Abitur exam score)
      • an Abitur grade of at least 13 points in English as a profile subject
      • (=average of last report grade and written Abitur exam score)
      • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: Grades A, B, C
      • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English: Grade A
      • IELTS (International English Language Testing System - Academic Version!): Total score 6.5, but with no partial score below 6
      • TOEFL PBT (Paper-based test): 550 (of 677) points
      • TOEFL iBT (Internet-based test): 90 (of 120) points

If you fulfil these requirements, you will receive a certificate from the English Department which you will need to present on enrolment. Please contact Dr. Blöhdorn.

Coming from another university

If you are interested in changing to Kiel University and need information regarding accreditation of the courses you have already taken elsewhere, please ask your current university's registrar for a summary of grades and send this to Dr. Blöhdorn by post or e-mail. He will prepare a semester rating report and contact you regarding the accreditation of your courses.
